Speeding dump truck causes fatal car accident

Firm News On Tuesday, August 5, 2014

When motorists in New Haven, and elsewhere, drive at high rates of speed, it can put them, and others, at risk. Drivers, who are speeding, may be unable to stop if the light changes quickly or another motorist brakes unexpectedly. Often, this results in motor vehicle accidents, which can have ranging consequences, including death.

Speed appears to have been a contributing factor in a fatal car accident that occurred in New Jersey recently. A 59-year-old man was reportedly killed after his vehicle was pushed into a lake by a dump truck. Both vehicles went into the water, but it was not reported whether or not the dump truck driver was also injured.

According to witnesses, the driver of the dump truck was traveling at excess speeds prior to the car collision. The truck purportedly rammed the car, which was stopped at a red light, and pushed it over 200 feet. There were no reasons disclosed as to why the dump truck driver was speeding and driving erratically. For his part, the man, who is believed to have caused the accident, has been charged with death by auto, among other charges.

The effects of auto accidents can be devastating, particularly when a person is killed. Families may be faced with unexpected expenses, including funeral-related costs, as well as a lost source of income. Working with an attorney can be one way for people, who have experienced a situation such as this, to learn about their rights and how they can receive help.
