When you experience a slip-and-fall accident in Connecticut, you may sometimes have serious injuries. A previous blog discussed the different kinds of wounds you might incur. This week’s blog will focus on traumatic brain injuries.
A TBI is often caused by a fall. According to the Mayo Clinic, your symptoms might not show up for several days or they may be evident right after you fall. Because of this, it is important to recognize your symptoms when they occur. If you have a more serious head injury, you usually start to experience symptoms in the first few hours after the fall, with more appearing over the course of a few days. You may notice your speech is slurred or that you are often confused. You may also feel agitated. Additionally, you may be nauseated or uncoordinated and have a headache which increases in intensity. Sometimes a more serious TBI can cause you to lose consciousness after the fall occurs.
Even a TBI which is less severe has symptoms you should generally look out for. These include tinnitus and blurred vision. You may also feel dizzy and tired. Sometimes you might feel disoriented, even if you did not lose consciousness. Cognitive symptoms can develop even in a mild TBI. You may feel anxious or experience mood swings, and sometimes you might have trouble concentrating.
You may think that your injury is not serious if you did not lose consciousness. However, you may sometimes pass out for a few minutes after a mild TBI. It is important to remember that some of these symptoms, such as nausea, can occur in any kind of brain injury. It is typically recommended that you see your doctor if you experience any symptoms.
