Dog owners in New Haven and elsewhere are responsible for their animals. In addition to ensuring that they are properly cared for, owners must also ensure that their dogs are properly secured, either in their home, on a tie-out or in a yard, particularly if the dog is aggressive. If an aggressive dog gets loose and harms someone, it could not only result in the dog having to be euthanized, it could also lead to serious legal problems for the owner.
Dog bite injuries have reportedly left one Chicago man in critical condition. His specific injuries have not been reported, however, witnesses reported the man suffered numerous bites to his face and arms in what was described as a frenzy. According to reports, the man was walking down the street when he was viciously attacked by as many as six pit bulls. Passersby, including the man’s father, came to his aid and helped to fend off the animals. The owner of at least four of the dogs alleged to be involved reportedly attempted to assist as well, but was not able to gain control of all of the dogs.
Although the dog owner reportedly suggests the man taunted his dogs prior to the attack, he could still face legal action from the victim. The man who was injured could choose to file a civil lawsuit seeking financial compensation for his medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages resulting from the dog attack.
The victim, and anyone who has been seriously injured by a dog bite, may find it helpful to consult with an attorney to discuss their situation. A lawyer can explain your options and answer any questions that you may have, as well as help you decide the best course of action for your case.
