Woman and daughter killed in drunk driving accident

Readers in New Haven are likely aware that, even when consumed responsibly, alcohol consumption can cause vision and judgment impairment, slowed reflexes and several other physical effects. As a result of these effects, it is very common for accidents to occur when someone who has been drinking gets behind the wheel. While the drunk driver may be injured or face criminal charges because of such an accident, they could also cause serious harm or even death for other drivers and passengers.

According to reports, a 64-year-old woman and her 23-year-old daughter were killed in an alleged drunk driving accident recently in Massachusetts after leaving a Red Sox baseball game. Making the situation worse is the fact that the man accused of causing the accident was an off-duty state trooper. The details of how the accident occurred were not reported, however, the officer reportedly struck the vehicle driven by the mother head-on.

The man could reportedly face additional charges once the investigation has been completed, but currently he is only facing charges for carrying his firearm while under the influence and for drunk driving. In addition to the possibility of more criminal charges being filed, the man could also face legal action from the family of the women who were killed. The victims’ family could choose to file a civil lawsuit seeking financial compensation for medical expenses resulting from the treatment the daughter received prior to passing away, as well as for funeral costs for both women.

This is where an experienced attorney may be able to help. For the family in this case, or anyone who has lost a loved one in a drunk driving accident, a lawyer can explain their options and help them to determine how best to proceed, as well as answer any questions they may have.
