Most citizens of New Haven, CT wouldn’t dream of there ever being a chance of them being charged with manslaughter. Since manslaughter involves killing another person without premeditation or malice, a reckless driver may fit into that category. This may be the case for a New Haven woman who caused a fatal car accident in April. She told officers that the reason she was driving so fast before the collision was that she was trying to get away from a man who threatened her with a gun. The 22-year-old woman was driving 78 mph, more than 50 mph over the speed limit, when she crashed into another car in an intersection. Authorities were able to tell how fast she was going by searching the data in her car’s computer. The driver of the other car died as a result of the accident.
The woman was recently arrested and charged with manslaughter, operating an unregistered vehicle and reckless driving. Her bond has been set at $300,000.
