Man who hit and killed two pedestrians charged

Firm News On Friday, May 24, 2013

When a person gets behind the wheel of a car, he needs to realize that he is not only responsible for the safety of his own passengers and self, but also the safety of everyone he comes in contact with on the road.  With the growing amount of cars on the road in New Haven, CT and the various potential safety hazards caused by weather, drivers need to be vigilant in ensuring that they are driving carefully.

A heightened sense of diligence may have prevented the deaths of two people in a neighboring town of New Haven.  The car accident occurred the day after a huge snow storm hit and prevented some people living on side streets from getting their cars out of streets that had yet to be plowed.

One family of three was walking along a street when they were hit by an SUV.  One witness described seeing the 51-year-old mother and 53-year-old father being thrown into the air like rag dolls.  They both died days after the accident.  Their 21-year-old daughter was injured in the accident.

After conducting an in-depth investigation, authorities issued an arrest warrant for the SUV’s driver.  The 31-year-old voluntarily gave himself up to police and was charged with reckless driving and two counts of second-degree manslaughter.  He will appear in court later this month.

The daughter who was injured in this case may wish to speak with an attorney to discuss her options regarding a civil lawsuit.  Not only may she be entitled to compensation for her own injuries, but also for her parents’ medical and funeral expenses.
