Important actions to take after an auto accident

Car Accidents,Firm News On Tuesday, January 19, 2016

As a licensed driver in Connecticut, you should routinely review your plan for what to do in case you are involved in a vehicle accident. These steps will really be the same no matter who is ultimately found to be at fault for the accident. While certainly tending to any injuries should always be a priority, there are several other things that will require your careful attention.

State Farm outlines the importance of remaining calm. Taking deep breaths can be a good way to help with this. You will be better able to take care of what you need to if you can avoid a state of panic. Aside from getting help for anyone injured, keeping others safe takes the focus. If possible, move your vehicle out of the way of the flow of traffic. If you cannot move your vehicle, place bright cones or flares around your automobile to alert other motorists to the potential hazard. These should be standard items in an emergency car kit.

Next, it is important for you to collect and share information with any other drivers involved in the crash. At a minimum, this involves vehicle title and registration data, driver name and contact details, and automobile insurance information. Using your cell phone to take pictures can provide a useful record of the accident scene. Take photos of your vehicle, the other vehicles involved, and the area surrounding the accident.
