Father of dog bite victim files lawsuit against owners

Firm News On Monday, August 19, 2013

A dog bite can not only leave a person with physical scars, but emotional ones as well. It can be a downright frightening thing to be attacked by an animal. Depending on the severity of the attack, the victim may have to endure several surgeries and therapy to repair the damage. Because these treatments in New Haven, CT can really add up, it is only fair that the dog’s owner is held responsible for the medical costs and pain and suffering of the victim.

The father of a dog bite victim is suing the dog’s owners for more than $100,000 because of the disfigurement, pain and suffering, mental anguish and loss of a normal life suffered by his daughter. The nine-year-old girl was at a couple’s home in 2012 when their dog, a boxer, attacked her and bit her underneath her left eye.

The girl’s father said the dog’s owners were negligent because they knew the dog was aggressive, but did not monitor it when his daughter was around. He also said they let the dog roam the premises without proper restraint and did not take the steps necessary to stop the dog from attacking other people.

Because of the negligence of this couple, the little girl’s life is likely to never be the same again. She will have to live the rest of her life with the memory of being attacked and being left disfigured. Her father did the right thing by retaining a lawyer to fight for her right to compensation for her injuries.
