Dog attacks mailman on two separate occasions

Firm News On Thursday, March 21, 2013

Dogs are pretty notorious for not particularly liking the mail delivery guy, so much so that the United States Postal Service keeps track of the number of dog attacks on postal employees each year. Nearly 6,000 postmen and women were the victims of dog attacks during 2011.

We’ve probably all heard the jokes in New Haven, CT involving a dog and a mailman at least once in our lifetime, but for one postman, it was no laughing matter when he suffered dog bite injuries during his route. The attack that occurred last August left the man with wounds to his thigh and buttock. As if that wasn’t enough, the man was bit again by the same German shepherd in February.

The dog has also had a history of jumping the neighbors’ fence and attacking their Chihuahua.

Because of the attacks, the police department deemed the dog as being too dangerous to remain inside city limits. Their ruling will need to be finalized by the city council before the dog’s owners are forced to remove it from the city.

This mailman has gone through a lot while he was just trying to do his job. One dog bite is enough, but allowing the dog the opportunity to bite the man twice is totally irresponsible of the dog’s owners. The man may wish to seek out an attorney who can advise him on his case. He may be entitled to compensation for his pain and suffering and any medical expenses incurred as a result of his injuries.
