Two young men presumably stole a vehicle from New Britain, Connecticut, on Saturday. By Tuesday, one of the young men was dead and the other could be facing charges due to a collision with two other vehicles at a stoplight in an apparent attempt to evade authorities in Hamden.
The current condition of the 19-year-old driver of the stolen SUV remains unknown at this time, but his 25-year-old associate, who sat in the back of the vehicle, received life-threatening injuries to which he later succumbed, according to law enforcement.
The three vehicles contained a total of seven people, and authorities report five minor injuries as a result of the crash. Specifics as to who received injuries are incomplete, but responders transported everyone involved in the crash to a nearby hospital for evaluation. The driver of one of the other vehicles is currently recovering from neck and back pain at home and describes the SUV careening out of control as it approached at a high velocity. It was only a matter of seconds before he felt the impact to the rear of his vehicle.
The accident occurred very early Tuesday morning at a Dixwell Avenue intersection. An attempt by law enforcement to stop the driver of the SUV on State Street led to the pursuit. It is unknown at this time what, if any, criminal charges the driver of the SUV will face. Authorities have examined security camera footage from a nearby business and ask any witnesses to the accident to call with information.
Regardless of the extent of the injuries, those harmed in a motor vehicle accident such as this may find it helpful to consult an attorney.
