Connecticut woman dies while undergoing dental procedure

Firm News,Wrongful Death On Thursday, March 5, 2015

People in New Haven, and throughout Connecticut, put their trust in the health care professionals who provide them medical treatment and care. This includes medical doctors, as well as dentists. Negligence on the part of these providers can have serious implications for those in their care. This type of medical malpractice may lead to worsened medical conditions and, in some cases, even the wrongful death of patients.

It appears that the negligence of an Enfield dentist resulted in the death of a patient recently, according to reports. The patient was reportedly undergoing a procedure to extract 20 teeth and install multiple implants. She was consciously sedated when her oxygen levels dropped significantly and she became unresponsive. Based on the woman’s prior medical history, the State Dental Commission determined that she should not have undergone so many procedures in one sitting. Additionally, the commission’s report indicated that the dentist did not take appropriate action when his patient began showing signs of distress.

Ultimately, the commission reportedly did not suspend the dentist’s professional license. He is, however, facing criminal charges for his part in the woman’s death. According to reports, he was charged with tampering with evidence, a felony offense. The dentist was also charged with criminally negligent homicide, a misdemeanor crime. He reportedly has denied any improper treatment of his patient.

Nothing can bring back a loved one who has been lost due to the negligence or intentional acts of others. However, it may be of benefit to those left behind to seek legal counsel and representation. A New Haven medical malpractice attorney may explain their rights and options for pursuing financial compensation.
