Consuming alcohol, both beer and liquor, can cause people to experience a range of effects, including blurred vision, slowed reflexes and diminished judgment. As a result of the impairments that alcohol intoxication can cause, it is all too common for drunk drivers to be involved in accidents. Not only can a drunk driving accident result in the serious injury or death of the intoxicated driver, so too can other drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other bystanders.

According to reports, a pedestrian in Norwalk was killed recently after being hit by a drunk driver. A truck that had veered onto the sidewalk reportedly struck the victim, along with two other people. The man purportedly died at the hospital due to the injuries he suffered. The other two pedestrians both sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. There was no further information released, however, regarding their specific injuries or updated conditions.

Authorities reportedly apprehended the driver who appears to have caused the accident after he tried to flee the scene on foot. Witnesses, it was reported, provided a description to dispatchers and confirmed his identity after he was caught. The 33-year-old, who was purportedly driving his work vehicle at the time of the accident, is facing a number of charges, including DUI and manslaughter with a motor vehicle. It was not disclosed whether or not the man was on the duty, or on call, when the accident occurred.

People who have suffered injuries in an accident caused by a drunk driver, as well as families who have lost loved ones in similar situations, may be entitled to financial compensation for their losses. Working with an attorney is one way for them to learn more about their rights and options.
