Paramedic killed in West Hartford drunk driving accident

Most readers in New Haven, and elsewhere, are aware of the dangerous effects that alcohol consumption can have on drivers, including impaired judgment, blurred vision and slowed reaction time. Even with the numerous reports detailing the hazards of drunk driving, the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence reports that close to 13,000 people are killed in accidents involving alcohol annually, and many more are injured.

According to reports, a 32-year-old local paramedic was killed in West Hartford recently when he was involved in a head-on collision with an alleged drunk driver. The man was reportedly on his way to work when the two vehicles crashed. The driver who is believed responsible for causing the accident was reportedly driving 25 miles per hour over the speed limit.

The alleged drunk driver, a 33-year-old woman, was reportedly arrested and is facing charges including driving drunk and manslaughter for her role in causing the wreck. After the accident, her blood alcohol content was reportedly .212. It was not reported, however, what type of test was used to obtain her BAC level.

One motorist’s decision to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol can forever change not only their life, but the lives of other drivers and passengers as well. Anyone who has been injured, or who has lost a loved one, in an accident caused by a drunk driver may want to speak with a legal professional to ensure they receive the compensation they deserve. An attorney can help you to understand your rights and options.
