The human brain monitors and controls all major systems within the body such as respiratory, circulation and motor movement. It is the most complex part of the body and, as a result, a brain injury is extremely complicated. Symptoms can include permanent disability, problems with memory, loss of speech and even mood changes. In some cases, a person may require medical care for the rest of his or her life.

A mother in Connecticut has filed a claim against a child development service agency in Wyoming for an accident that occurred there in 2012. The mother filed the lawsuit on behalf of her child, who suffered a traumatic brain injury after being run over by the agency’s van. The mother is asking the agency and other defendants for medical care, caretaking costs, emotional distress and other damages.

Apparently the child was outside near the agency’s van as it was leaving when the accident occurred. The van and its occupants had come to help with the child’s brother. As a result of the brain injury the 15-month old received, the child had a stroke. Now it is claimed that the stroke caused permanent injuries to the child but the type and extent of injuries is unknown.

When someone suffers a brain injury, that person can be at risk for further medical problems. The person may need to go through months of rehabilitation, suffer loss of income and face a large amount of medical debt. Brain injuries are known to be unpredictable and it can be difficult to estimate what an appropriate amount of compensation should be. In such cases, it may be helpful to speak with a knowledgeable attorney.
