Whether sustained in a car accident, a fall or some other incident, readers in New Haven are likely aware of the severity of head injuries. If it does not result in death, brain trauma can have serious, lasting effects, including problems speech, movement or other bodily functions, which could require extensive medical treatment.
According to reports, accident investigators are still looking into what caused an accident that left a man in Bangor, Maine fighting for his life. It appears the man was thrown up to 60 feet, when the motorcycle he was riding rear-ended a car. The man reportedly suffered a serious brain injury and remains in critical condition. He was purportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, but it was not reported whether he sustained the injury in the initial impact or the resulting ejection.
The driver of the car the man hit reportedly claimed he did not see the man when he pulled out of an industrial circle into traffic. It is unknown to the public at this time whether either driver is facing criminal or traffic charges as a result of the accident.
If the man survives his injuries, he could require long-term care and, possibly extensive rehabilitation. He, or his family on his behalf, could choose to file a civil lawsuit against the other driver for damages and accident compensation. An attorney can help the man and his family, as well as anyone who suffered a serious injury due to an accident, to determine how best to proceed in your particular situation.
