Jim maintains a general practice of law, with his most extensive experience in the areas of real estate (including commercial and residential closings, land use, landlord-tenant and all aspects of real property law), estates, probate administration and general and real estate litigation.

As a part of his practice, Jim's approach has been to provide counseling for clients in a wide variety of matters, working with them on many aspects of their lives as a general practitioner. The scope of Jim's legal work since 1993 has included considerable experience in bankruptcy, business law, criminal law, family law and divorce, litigation, probate administration, real estate and zoning, wills & trusts, and estate preservation.

Jim works with individuals and businesses with interests in New Haven County and throughout Connecticut. His clients have included Wallingford (Holiday Cinema) Plaza, Gaylord Hospital, Home Depot, Wallingford Housing Authority, Hamden Housing Authority, Glastonbury Housing Authority, Midwood Management (Manhattan), Brentwood Village, Mountain Brook Village and Parker Place Condominiums (Wallingford), Quarry Village (Cheshire) and Gettysburg Village (Southington).

Jim lives in the center of Wallingford with his wife Lauren and their three children. His father, Edward P. Loughlin, founded the firm in 1962. Before law school, Jim worked at Irving Bank Corporation in New York City. He was admitted to the Connecticut bar in 1993 and the U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts, District of Connecticut, in 1994.
